Ash Wednesday-Mt Macedon (25th Anniversary)

Feb 16, 1983. Victoria and South Australia were gripped by at least 6 major bushfires which would kill 72 people and destroy the homes of 2,000 families.
In the Macedon Ranges, 8 people died and 400 homes were lost to the fire.

I'm still haunted by that terrible night. I managed to round up dozens of stranded women and children along roads who had no route of escape. I managed to eventually get them all to safety in a horse paddock between Brougham Rd and Clarke St. I wonder how 2 little old ladies are that I rescued along Brougham Rd in a little white car who were surrounded by fire with no way out until I came running through the smoke to lead them along the way to safety. Does anyone know them?

thats sad how everyone lost houses and family members same to how just last i think saturday had the same bushfire attack

It's so eery watching this now that only a few months after this news special almost exactly the same areas have been hit with the worst bushfires in australias history
