  • If you don't dig them up in the fall, just cover them with mulch. There's no reason to lose them from freezing. It's so easy to prevent. Also, be sure that they're in bright shade or filtered sun. They do need good light...just not direct sun (except, maybe, for early morning and late afternoon).
