Here's a short video of my modified Stihl MS660 vs. one of my Dolmar 7900's with stock 85cc Big Bore kit. This kit hasn't even seen a tank of fuel through it yet so nowhere near run in. It is also tuned a bit rich during run in.
Both saws running 84DL Stihl RSC Full Chisel chain (24" although Stihl will tell you it's a 25" bar!).
The MS660 has been ported, has a pop up piston and cylinder machining to increase compression, a dual port modified muffler, plus a high output oiler for longer bars.
The wood is extremely hard Casuarina and as expected the Stihl pumps the Dolmar in timber like this.
Although very few cuts were made both chains had visible damage on the cutter points. Semi chisel chain is far more suitable in dead hardwood like this.

  • Not sure if hard wood or bad chain on the stihl....

  • @TheMuggOst Both saws had new Stihl RSC chains fitted and the wood was very hard.

  • NEED TO COMPARE APPLES TO APPLE!....the Dolmar fully tricked out(for what is out there) is still more than over 6cc diff from a stock 660...and your stihl is modified? W/E!

  • @TheAtaner2010 If anybody thought I was comparing apples to apples in this vid then they are wrong. That wasn't the case at all. This was simply two completely different saws in the same video where people can simply watch and enjoy or not enjoy in some cases. The fact that the fully modified 660 stomped the stock Dolmar BB's arse really shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody. If it makes you feel better I have a fully modified 7900 with pop up piston that will stomp a stock 660's arse easily.

  • yeah the STIHL is 91.6 cc vs the dolmars 79cc yeah i wonder whos gonna win,I have been a Husky man for 20years now and when i tried the 7300 dolmar on just pure chance I fell in love with it. I now leave my 372 xp Husky in the truck, along with my 44 magnum Stihl.....For the price and right out the box performance Dolmar Cant be BEAT

  • @standswithafifth Well actually this particular Dolmar had the BB kit with 85cc. It wasn't actually a race mate and I too am a big Dolmar fan. I own 3 x 7900's and a 5100-S. This was just a comparison video against my modded 660. The modded 79cc Dolmars I own will flog a stock or slightly modded 660, just not this one. My go to saws are actually the 7900's and my modded Husky 390XP's...

  • @mattward74 yup : )

  • @joshuarugg Yeah I've heard of that stuff. From memory it makes good furniture too :) The wood in this photo is probably about 15% harder than Redgum and one of the harder woods in Australia when dried.

  • @mattward74 no i understand 100%. im an arborist and cut alot of hawaiian keawe wood which is VERYYY hard stuff. similar to dried red gum.

  • @joshuarugg I know where you are coming from (I have a chainsaw business involving lots of chain sharpening) but these were both brand new, untouched, out of the box Stihl RSC chain. The 7900 was bogging because of the hardness of the wood which many people outside Australia would struggle to understand and the fact that the saw was running an 8 pin rim when in this case a 7 pin would be more suitable.

    Rakers hadn't been touched.
