How about using the trigger from a power drill? Could that be better than a cordless drill when hooked up to a car battery?

The pulses may be cleaning the plates of sediment to some extent, accelerating the process. But yes, attaching a cordless drill to a car battery is likely to blow it. Provided the circuit doesn't have some form of current feedback fitted.

I'd guess the more expensive ones might, so it doesn't overheat when you stall the drill.
