It has come to our attention that a number of our replacement Tecumseh snow engine 110V starter motors, part number 33-738, have experienced breakage on the spiral starter drive.
The spiral drive has a potential problem with the heat treat and should be replaced. This does not involve a safety concern but it will keep the starter from engaging the flywheel. We have developed a starter drive kit that will incorporate the new spiral drive, C clip and plastic protective cover. The kits will be available at no charge and will be shipped to you the first week of January to cover all starters that you have purchased since June 1, 2009. Distributors will be compensated accordingly to cover the labor charges for the installation of the kit. Please view this instructional installation video for details on how to repair the units.
Please call 1-800-743-3150 ext.307 or e-mail me at TechServices@oregonoep.com with the total number starters that you have repaired to receive the credit or if you have any questions.
Please pass this on to all necessary personnel in your organization.
We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your attention to this matter.

You don't have to cut the boot. It can be hooked off with the flat screw driver. You can also put a little dish soap around the boot to help it go back on. The soap will just wash away.
