Please tell me something.. I hear that this part of the river is the toughest waters in the world.. Heavy winds, etc.. Can you tell me how the hunter holds up to these conditions?  I am talking about the Columbia Bar- do I have the right area on the river? Thank you..

@DOCCAREY Portland is about 100 miles upstream from the Colombia River Bar. I'm not the best person to ask about the capabilities of a Hunter.

@DOCCAREY The Portland OR area has benign sailing conditions: protected waters, but the wind can rip in or out of the Gorge. The tough waters begin 100 miles downstream where the river flows into the Pacific Ocean: the Columbia River Bar. Sometimes the bar can be flat, and other times the Bar Pilots won't take a freighter across it. And of course, the ocean waters offshore Northern California, Oregon and Washington can be very bad. But if you choose your day, no problem.

@andrewaburnett Thanks andrew.. I was thinking you were sailing the bar.. Planning on taking some heavy wind sailing there.. Getting out of the light winds of the Pugent sound. A WA state sailor (hunter 33) and really seek some heavy winds. If you sail with HAPS (hunter association Pugent sound) hope to to see you.. many blessings.. you own my future boat.. Lucky person.. I am envious! Actually I am looking at the new 39.. a very sweet boat with pretty lines.. Much thanks!
