@kaiser5676 My impression was that the map was wrong. Snake figured that out when he followed Brain's directions while driving the cab and ended up hitting the land mine. After that he simply ignored Brain.

I think Snake was willing to accept a loss on the "land mine thing" in order to deactivate his Aortic explosives". He might have not been thinking straight when it came to crossing the bridge since his head was about to explode. I might say he was out of work for too long:) Just a guess.
