A song written by Dave Goulder about the coming and changing of seasons. I first heard this performed by my friend Frank Holden and more recently by Christie Moore. This is my version!

  • Nice one. Some sustained fiddle in the background would add a nice haunting touch.

  • A little fiddle would have been great!

  • Great Job. It had me Mystified. Just an incredible job at singing it too. Your voice and that song go good together.

  • Thanks a lot. I have known this song for a long time but never sing it much. You can check out more of Dave Goulder's website.

  • Great Job, Christy Moore version I've heard. Very popular here.

  • Thanks!

  • Great.

  • very nice !

  • I just heard this on NPR a few hours ago. Your version is excellent.

  • @beefheartvliet

Also covered by Geordie folk band The Callies in 1971 on their album"On Your Side" and in 1993 by Billy Mitchell on his "Almost Grown " album. Billy formerly fronted the Callies, Lindisfarne and Jack the Lad, all great bands. Also has some great solo albums and work with Bob Fox.

  • A great song, and a fantastic cover of it, Brilliant!

  • i borrowed a tape from the library as a kid 20 something years ago called "The world of contemporary folk " which had a version by someone called Archie Fisher. Sorry folkies if I sound a little ignorant, I was only young and still discovering stuff other than thrash :-)

My point being is that your version is very reminiscent of his, and enjoyed listening to it. At least now I know that there is a version which is most probably older by Bert Jansch.

    Gotta love youtube :-)

  • Earliest version I know is the Album Moonshine by Bert Jansch 1973. Best version!

Always loved the song. Glad it is on Youtube in some form and your voice is very pleasant and fits the song well.

  • I love your voice... Reminds me of Stan Rogers.

  • Thank ye for this. I first heard this performed by Mike Harding way back. Ye do it very well, with fitting gravity.

  • this is a total rip off,Of mike harding`s song! From his album bombers moon,And if you take the trouble to listen nothing comes close!!
