The tories changed the definition of unemployment over TWENTY times in the 80's and 90's. Unemployment in 1984 was much, much worse then it was in 2009.

What we have had for the last 20 years is state corporatism. Governments have forced banks to lend (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were forced to lend under the Community and Reinvestment Act enacted by Jimmy Carter in 1977). It is central banks that control the money and credit supply. We need to return to a proper gold standard. We need a proper market economy where people can engage in voluntary exchange. Get rid of politicians and the state and let us run our own lives.

Globalisation is great if it is done properly. It has already lifted half a billion out of poverty. It also reduces the power of governments and empowers individuals, because now an individual with an idea is no longer constrained by borders. He can take it to anywhere in the world. This is what lifts the poor out of poverty in developing countries. We need a truly libertarian free market economy based on Austrian School principles and a Gold Standard.
