the stock exhaust on my VW MkV GTI is furious, only you have to practically put a mic inside it to hear. additionally I threw a mic under the hood to hear the incredible sound of the turbo and blow off valve, along with the direct-injection.

I have to admit the speed I achieved at points while driving on this stretch of road is surprising, but due to the GTI's incredible suspension and aerodynamic tuning it was just another day in the office. Its tendency to to understeer during acceleration is a welcome safety net, while some lift-off oversteer helps the car to rotate around tight corners. at the same time, it kept its composure 100% of the time even when the road was less than optimal. what a great ride, and great fun. the only thing I'd like to change about the car however is the brakes. they're as mushy and mushy can be, and because of this they do not inspire confidence. maybe some stainless steel brake lines would help, but there's no question that my first modifications will be the APR ecu, upgraded brakes, and racing tires.

all I have to do now is find the money to go racing so I can get off public roads and build a proper race car. in the mean time, gran turismo will suffice.

download my gran turismo tuning guide for the iPhone on the iTunes Store.

also to note of the numerous times I shifted during this film, not one was missed!!! no grinding here, though my clutch smelled like it didn't like it when I used it to control wheel spin during one of the launches. still, the car is very tight and smooth for having 30,000 miles on the odometer. I don't ever want to get rid of it. and these roads are obviously tremendous, they're the most curvaceous and undulating road I have ever driven. if only I could get them to pave them, close them down temporarily and establish a racing/rally circuit, I would be in heaven.

filmed with a canon hv30 with add-on audio by sennheiser lav mics into a juicedlink 4 track phantom powered mixer.

  • This is an excellent video. Great sound. I like how you push the car without taking stupid chances like crossing the centre line or blasting full speed over blind crests. Good job! I am curious, how do the brakes hold up on a drive like this? Any fade?

  • @werdupboyee Cheers! Safety is surely as important as fun. The brakes held up very well aside from their inherent mushiness.

  • Nice man, that was a really smooth 1-2 and 2-3 shift man. Great upshifting. I have a 2010 Mk6 w/6 spd man. I find it hard to avoid the lurch or jerkiness when shifting in low gears under hard driving. Any tips?

  • @rushcreek77 Cheers! I found after driving the car for 6 months I finally was smooth with its transmission and clutch... I think what makes it hard is that the engine likes to rev up, but not down.

  • can u tell me EXACTLY what specs that u have installed or added to this car.(name brand etc.) please and thank you

  • @taal55 This car is fully stock. BOV and all.

  • I drove up and down highway 1 on the California coast several times after I bought my Mk6. Then I read in the news a few days later that parts of that road had collapsed into the ocean. I'm pretty sure my baddass GTI caused that.

  • I'm surprised that you don't have more views! This is an awesome video. I love the camera setup and your driving is excellent. You can really hear that bypass valve working when you get off the gas lol. Before I read the description I thought that you had an aftermarket intake. I drive the GTI's competition (Mazdaspeed3), but I love the "Golf" lineup.
