He has actually spent a lot of time in Africa but if anything was clear Africans can't help themselves. So he spends a great deal of time talking to bigwigs with money, to the point where his own band gets frustrated with him. Bono is a lot of things but uneducated and a prick he isn't.

You need to do a little more investigating obviously. He's asking wealthy countries to DROP THE DEBT not donate money. You've never "heard of him donating money" because it's hardly something he discusses with the press. Why? Because the issue isn't about self glorification it's about creating a world which values human life equally. Please try and understand what you're talking about before dropping misinformed comments with spelling mistakes no less.

You could be right in many ways but then the idea that young people wouldn't know about the problems in Africa unless a celebrity talked about them on TV is a truly depressing one.

I don't buy the whole "raising awareness" argument when related to this cause. Anyone who's not been living under a rock is aware of how poverty stricken many parts of Africa are. To me, when celebrities say they are "raising awareness" for a well known cause it's a code for "I'm going on about it in the media to boost my own public image." If you're a celebrity who genuinely wants to help, stop patronising the rest of us, shut up and get on with the task at hand.

A wonderful video, and incredibly inspiring! Something amazing I also saw was the veganism movement in Africa. Africans promoting veganism, when Americans will turn their nose at you, insult you, or become offended at the idea of it. I wonder if Bono knows about the Ethiopian Vegan Association, and that they were the spearhead of the vegan movement in Africa. My dream job would be to go to Africa to help its people, and its animals. One need not suffer to save the other. Thanks for listening.

This TEDtalk was unnecessary, copenhagen consensus pretty much says it all and much better.

In order for African countries as a whole to improve the focus needs to be on them to change their political and economic approaches. Democratizing their countries and sorting out better market economic policies will help. Africa needs more intra-African trade but African gov'ts have made trade across borders too complicated. Things like this needs to change.

Mother Teresa didn't help much. The care the Missionaries of Church tried to give ended up hurting the people they took in more than helping them, as all they cared about was conversions, not actually helping. Secular organizations are outdoing them today.
