http://www.12SCEarn.com/SmallEngineGo.html This is the first time in my life anyway that I actually got to see how you can make rope from twine.
It is a very simple system but unique!
The twine is first looped through a series of hooks and then tied at the single hook at the one end.
Then the operator with the three hooks begin to wind the twine clock wise until Farly tight which just goes by feeling.
The triple hook sytem are connected together with a single handle and the three grooved out board keeps the twine separate. Once the twine is at its desired tightness then the other operator begins to turn the single hook clock wise and there you have it a piece of rope which can be made to almost any length and the thickness up over 1 inch!
This is more practical than most machines I've seen. You have the ability to move the twiner far away from the stationary holder in order to make almost any length rope without any messy splices in it. I know that this must have been at a "Founder's Day" event or local turn of the century demonstration of how rope was made before nylon was invented. However, try using PLARN, plastic yarn spun from used plastic bags, and see the type of rope you are able to create. I have and it is really strong.
