@mrsunny811 Yeah, true that...

To a poor nymph any size trout is a monster - all relative i guess :)
Btw you don't have to rub it in Mike... we all know you've got the best job in the world!

Nice work. I'd struggle to call this a monster though... Bit of an imagination stretch as it's looks to be about 7lbs or so. Some rivers in NZ have almost that in average size. A monster would be maybe 12lb or more. I guess if you come from the UK though it's a big'un - all relative i guess.

Awesome video.... just watched it for about my 7th time. I can almost feel the fish pulling. Water is beaurtiful.....fantastic job

awsome huge fish

@36outof50 yeah because a pike would definitely eat a mayfly imitation, live in a fast moving cold river, and hold in a shallow riffle. good call.

HAHAHA !!! OH SHIT !!!! ... I WOULD HAVE GIVEN A ROCK IN THE STREAM A HIDING HAD I LOST A BIG ONE LIKE THAT LOL Nice catch !!!

Well done. Definitely one of the bigger fish I've seen. Caught a 44 lbs king salmon in Alaska in '09, in the Kenai River. Also a great experience! Props to you for the fish and the video, definitely a thumbs up.
Did you measure weight and length of this beauty?

Hi technofreak,
This one actually went back because it was big and so has a higher spawning potential than a smaller fish. I did eat lots of trout in New Zealand though - I just made sure they were not too big.
For the record this fish was a brown trout - not a pike as some people seem to think on this thread....

At the end he fast releases what looks like the leader.
How did he do that?

@mallachsteve
Hi Mallachsteve,
The dry fly caught on my shorts and he was hooked on the nymph. The fish managed a long release because as soon as the dry snagged on my shorts the fish was being played on my shorts (not a good idea) and the PTN straightened.... Luckily for me instinct took over and I netted him before carefully returning....
