From the Monterey County Herald on May 22, 2011:
"Apparently Alex Pingree wasn't interested in coming out and pitching an extra inning.
So the Santa Catalina pitcher took matters into her own hands by ripping a walk-off homer Saturday to lead the Cougars to a 1-0 win over San Lorenzo Valley in the CCS Division III playoffs.
The minute the ball left her bat, it sent the dugout into pandemonium,
"I was just thinking hard contact,'' Pingree said.
Pingree launched a missile-like shot that carried over the outstretched glove of the center fielder, enabling the junior hurler to race around the bases to end the game.
"When I rounded first, I saw that it tipped off her glove,'' Pingree said. "At that point, I just ran.''
As a result, the top-seeded Cougars are headed to the CCS semifinals for the first time, where they will face Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League co-champion Soquel — 8-6 winners over Notre Dame-Belmont."
