  • It is not a Hendrix song. It is a song that Hendrix covered as well. He had a verry insightfull producer require that song be released as a single. Hendrix was part of the English Invasion. English management, English Band and Marketing of the London experience to American white kids. If Jimi stayed in Seatle and played just as well in a R&B band with mostly black musicians. He could have lived a long life in the shadow of Richard Thompson.

  • @rb6x7 I know it is not a Hendrix song, but he made is very much his own. Being a marketing concept at start does not diminish the creative mind of a musician. Some, as Jimi, developed. Same goes for the Beatles.. a similar start.

  • I saw him do Hey Joe live in the 90s, Boulder, Colorado, I think. Amazing as always.

  • Only seen RT do JH for a few secs, as part of a demo on the many different tones available on a Strat; he also did Knopfler in the same segment. As RT's gotten older, he's tended to lean increasingly on the modal and dissonant aspects of his style, especially live. While I like that fine (it's one of the trademarks that sets him apart) it's nice to hear him play something relatively straight and American-blues-based. He doesn't use blues much, but he clearly has it in reserve. Good post.

  • seen him a few times never hear him play hendrix until this year. prob the oxford gig refered to above. after his seemingly impromptu performance of hey joe i said wish i recorded that prob never hear him do that again. so thank you so much

  • Probably the only living guitarist who can do justice to Hendrix.

  • He did this as an encore in Oxford at end Jan - seemingly to an impromptu request from the audience. If so then it obviously got into the set. Either way it was a cracking performance and glad someone captured it,

  • @JoHigh

Very rare indeed! I've seen RT more than 40 times since 1982 and I have NEVER seen him do Hendrix.

The Europeans have all the luck!

  • One of the few guitar players alive Hendrix would be happy to hear play his songs.

  • thanks for posting Thompson doing Hendrix, a very rare thing.
