Personally, i thought the single room mic sounded best.

can you tell me wich room mic and wich overhead mics you used for this video?
Thank you!
I really liked the room mic where you placed it and how the cymbals sound (sorry for my english)

great video, man.

@naedsukram I'm not suprised by that. The video is informative as well but that kit does sound amazing.

Sounds great, exp with no EQ! I got a new Pearl last night and a shit drum mic setup, but hell its better than nothing, and I'm gonna see how that sounds when I get it going. Great video tho!

So would you recommend a room mic if possible cuz I already have any idea of what I want to do when I get a good enough place, but a room mic was not even in my head?

I am trying to record drums in my homestudio. I have 3 good microphones and the other three/four are just ordinary Carol dynamics (Taiwan's SM58 copies). The good three are: Rode K2 - I want to use it for overhead, Shure SM57 - for kick, Sennheiser e965 in supercardio - for snare top, and Carols for 3 toms. Will I manage to record good demo? I am recording with Logic Pro 0, RME Babyface with preamp PreSonus LT as ADAT.
This video by Naedsukram has been one my favorite YouTube "drum mic technique comparisons" in the last 3-years or so. It's really well done. It gives great examples of a room-mic & close mic's. You can really notice what the two different techniques bring to the table when done correctly. I've noticed that with allot of YouTube video examples, the room microphone just isn't making sense. I watched this video quite a few times. I really took some things away from it. The GATING is just amazing.

@dec151974 thnaks man, nice of you to say so. This video definitely has its shortcomings, I didn't think it would get close to this many views, it was just intended as a quick demonstration of what youtubers may get on their video camera mic, compared to close mics on a kit. I was getting lots of emails about the sound of the kit, when it was more about the amount of mics and placement : ) Dean

my NT4 was about $600, SM57s and 58s are around $250ea, so I think couple of grand. U can get mic kits for a lot less though, like from Samson or CAD.

Wow, those are some nice chops. I really liked the video, it was very informative. I actually purchased a 5 piece drum kit (snare was chrome) that looks exactly like yours! Is there a way you could tell me what kind of drum kit that is? It has the same kick lugs as yours, and the same tom lugs. Thank you!

@ActivStudios sure, it's a Pearl Sesion Series maple kit, but I'm using my ludwig kick drum and a 13" Mapex snare.
