  • In rapid prototyping there is no time for people to be working concurreently as the molds must be done within hours by one person. i use a base cad file then use concurrent design, programming--and manufacturing all at the same time. Thus the standard linear approach does not work and multiple things in the flow chart are worked on at the same time and affect each other--archiving is done later. The concept is not anymore-get it right the first time--it is get it right WHILE YOU ARE DOING IT

  • Agree - engineers own electrical constraints even if the PCB designer enters them. The constraints represent the engineer's design intent. In our company, we expect the engineers to enter the constraints (and then there is no need for back annotation).

Bigpoppa - I don't where $100K per seat comes from - not my experience at all - but in general, you get what you pay for (and negotiate :-). As far as I can tell, nobody has the capabilities discussed in this video except Mentor.

  • Surely the engineer is the only person qualified to add all the electrical constraints?

  • Do the Schematic done right the first time. Secondly, I don't know of to many Engineers that are willing to share their design concurrently. As SR. PCB Designer I don't want the Engineers adding Constraints either. I'll do it myself and then back-annotate.

Mentor Graphics should be spending more time understanding why the Marketing Department has ruined the Expedition flow. I get more functionality out of a seat of Altium for $6500K, instead of paying over $100K per seat of Expedition.
