I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down: Chapter 43 part 3 - A Jonas Story

She glances up at Kevin as they walk, her heart jumps as she sees his caring eyes. "Well after graduation, that's when things started to change. His band was falling apart, the other guys were tired of him pushing them around, he was drunk most of the time, he couldn't keep a day job, and he blamed me for all of it. I was actually doing really well for myself. I was teaching at a music school and my name was getting passed around by a few labels. I also started hanging out with friends more, I didn't want to be home. He got really controlling at that point, yelling at me when we were alone and when we were out he wouldn't let me go anywhere with out him, practically glued to my side. He would even follow me to the washroom and wait for me to come out. I s-should have r-realized (her voice cracking) then that things would get worse. Susan even warned me but I didn't want to see it." Kevin states "That's usually the way; when you love some one you don't want to think bad of them." Lisa gazes at him and grins relieved that he understands. "Then I was offered the chance to go to London for 6 weeks, the Queen Session, I jumped at it. Who wouldn't, Right? Kevin nods "I wouldn't have passed that up." "When I told Alex I was going, he flipped out, started calling me all kinds of names, accused me of cheating on him with another friend.....and then...He hit me. It was the first time he'd ever done that. He left me sitting on our apartment floor crying, with a black eye and bruises on my arms." Kevin's shocked face said it all, his mind racing *How could anyone do that to her* "Susan came and got me, I stayed with her until I left a few days later." He smiles reassuringly "Well at least you got out." Lisa looks up at him still hurting and shakes her head. "But that's the problem, I didn't..." she looks down at the sand as they walk. "He called me the whole time I was away... apologizing, crying, begging for forgiveness. When I got back he was waiting at the airport with flowers. He told me how sorry he was, how much he loved me, promised that it would never ever happen again. And like a fool I believed him." Another tear rolls down her cheek this time Kevin notices and wipes it away. "Look if this is to tough, you don't have to go on." She shakes her head and closes her eyes again and whispers "That wasn't the worst part yet?...See all that happened in Toronto, where I was near everyone I loved but when we moved to Vancouver....That was the biggest mistake." Kevin puts his arm around her shoulder for comfort, she looks up at him then leans her head on his shoulder as they continue to walk. "Things got way worse, I won't go into details but he started hitting me almost every night, I would go to work all covered up trying to hide my bruises. I had no one to turn to there, everyone I trusted was so far away. Susan called one night, just after another horrible beating. He hadn't let me talk to her in ages, but he had passed out. She knew right away what was going on. She jumped on the first flight and was at my door in what seemed like minutes. I'll never forget her face when she first saw me, the pity, pain and anger in her eyes she burst into tears. Alex was going out of town for a gig that night so we were able to pack all my stuff, she found me a place to stay and took me to the doctor....that's when I found out.....I was...I was....I had broken ribs." "Thank you Susan." Kevin exclaims as he pulls her in closer to him. Lisa nods against his shoulder "Yeah, the only problem was that he kept calling, he was furious that's when he threatened to kill me." She looks up at him and he sees the tears welling in her eyes. He stops her and takes her hands in his giving them a squeeze. "It's in the past, you're okay now." She smiles weakly and him "Well, I didn't go back, instead I went to the police. I got a restraining order, but of course that didn't stop him. I changed my number and moved again. Things kinda went back to normal I was working a lot and that's when I let my guard down....I should have known he wouldn't give up easy." The tears start to flow freely down her cheeks and her breath becomes paniced. He squeezes her right hand again while his right hand comes up to her cheek gently wiping the tears with his fingers as her caringly asks "What did he do to you? How could anyone hurt you like this?" She closes her eyes trying to stop the flow of tears. Feeling his gentle touch on her face. "He...He...must of tracked me down, followed me...He jumped me one afternoon with a knife....and when that didn't work he tried to strangle me...I blacked out...

You'll get some details about Kev's break up in the next chapter. XD You are one of the first ones to catach that change in what she was saying.
