It is customary for civilized societies to have their elected officials on either side of the political divide to not seek to strangle the other the moment one gets within arm's reach, just as it is customary to not ignore each other "because he pisses me off".
It's all traditional posturing. Remember that in the House of Commons the House of Lords was always referred to as "The Other Place."
