Having a little bit of fun with the turbo 5.7 Iroc. At the time of this video I've finished the 3" downpipe all the way to the cat (no more leaky exhaust from the first video). I was testing some heat barrier tape today that I put on the AC system components. Seems to work well, nice cold air all day. I'm putting on a 3" cat back next week so it won't be as quiet in the future but it will be as quiet as I can make it (unfortunately a Flowmaster is on the 3" system but that will change to Magnaflow in the near future) and a Walbro pump and then it's off to the land of 12-15 psi!

Just a teaser video from the outside at the end of the video. I didn't want to get in trouble driving crazy so I only took off once and it ended up being too far from the camera. It left black marks and didn't really get anywhere fast but it was fun. I'm working on getting some good outside footage soon. Probably when I get a little more boost so it's more interesting to see & hear.

  • i have a mildly built 350 TBI in my car. my car is an RS. 2 years ago i swapped the 305 tbi out for a 350 tbi. i have an edlebrock performer plus cam, l89 heads, bored throttle body, headers, 3" cat back. could a turbo be used on a 350 tbi setup or does this only work for TPI? my car runs pretty good(could always use some more power), but i love the sound of that turbo. a turbo with a big v8 sounds like a small jet engine

  • @ad356 There are some people at Thirdgen.org that have done this with TBI. A couple of things working against you are a relatively low fuel pressure and of course being limited to two injectors. You can go with bigger injectors but there is a limit. Beyond that you would have to do some kind of secondary injectors, in which case it would be probably be cheaper to just convert to a TPI intake and a set of 42lb/hr injectors, which would support over 500 crank hp.

    and how efficient is the turbo, with that stock engine? can it be run on a 305?

  • @obrauthigam Still running strong over a year later. Now running 13 psi & intercooled, and have been to 15-16 a few times. Eventually the engine will give in, but no signs of blow-by so far. I run a conservative timing curve although lately I've been trying to squeeze a couple more 10ths out of it at the dragstrip. As fast as this turbo spools on the stock 350, I think it would work fine with a 305. Especially a 305 with a little more cam than stock.

  • @obrauthigam so you recommend it? ive seen all these ebay turbos, and they're cheap for the most part.

    did you have to tune the engine in any sort of way, any other aftermarket parts? at all?

  • @obrauthigam Well I recommend putting a turbo on anything with a 4 stroke engine so I might be a bit biased. As for tuning, I'm running a Megasquirt ECM so yeah I had to do the whole tune. Engine is 100% stock except for the starter (original died and I went to a LT1 style gear reduction starter), injectors, walbro 255 in-tank pump, MSD 6AL box and of course the megasquirt.
