This is part 3 of a lecture former Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong gave at Unity in November 2008. In speaking to participants at Unity Institute's first Lyceum, Spong said Unity's unique gift to the evolution fo Christianity -- and the gift that changed his own live -- is a redefinition of God and humanity's relationship with God.

  • BIshop Spong never ceases to amaze me with his phenomenal teaching and willingness to challenge the traditional thoughts and doctrines of traditional Christianity.

  • I never get enough of this man. I so wish all religious people were like him (no offense to anyone).

  • @brentduanefoster Yeah! everyone loves listening to him. He seeks not to offend, not to tell the truth of the Bible.

  • @JMackeyIII your guilt trip refers to the glib phrase that you apologists for madness throw out called "original sin" that all humans are supposedly born with. your mumbo jumbo refers to your belief in the devil, your god,s insatiable lust for praise, eternal sadism, incapacity to forgive without murder. you are an ill informed, sanctimonious, superstitious plaything of the clergy. i can understand the bishop's call for humans to love abundantly and maximise our potential.

first you need to get rid of religious folks that deny Christ. I do not understand the reference to a guilt trip, can you even elaborate on that or is it just a turn of phrase for you.

of what have I stated is mumbo jumbo? or is that another platitude of dissension.

From what you have just said you have found your god in spong since his speech lacked one, therefore him and his ideals must be what we must strive for.

  • @JMackeyIII You are welcome to your guilt trip. Spong makes more sense to me than your abacadabra.

Beings that do not feel pain are overdue for extinction. Any deity that is waiting for man to please him will first have to get rid of the religious folks who are not like Spong. That means you and your mumbo jumbo. You people distract humanity with your pseudo enlightenment.

i do not understand your point. if you refer to your physical birth, it was wonderful because you were born. You were still born a sinner, unable to avoid pain, unable to please God, requiring a new birth. Any preaching that forsakes the gospel of Christ, to make an audience feel better about themselves is dangerous and demonic.

So when a minister blatantly dodges the message of Christ it needs to be pointed out. So none will be denied to opportunity of the Good News.

  • @JMackeyIII you might have been born in sin but my birth was wholesome and loving. you sado masochists can keep on lashing each other. i was born to avoid pain.

  • but they were born in sin as where you and I...

    Is he writing another bible...

You can not live more fully without the new life that is given by the Holy Spirit which comes after salvation, which comes after here the good news.

    Jesus said all of this...

    may you be anathema...
