This it the first test of a fully functional home security burglar alarm. Full construction details are here: http://warehouse.carlh.com/article_174
Simple as can be, and yet as effective as it needs to be. The plastic between the clothes pin is the simple break in the circuit from the noisemaker buzzer (a simple Radioshack part) and the batteries. When the plastic tab is hooked to a door knob via string and a carabiner, it goes off when the door is opened.
Note that we also have a very well trained German Shepherd.
This is an ancillary alert system for about $7 per door (or window, or garage door, etc). Very shortly I'll be putting up an article on my website about this project.
wtf???

When you need something to save your life; the fewer parts that can screw up the better. I have a BSEE _Bach Science Electronic Engineering-. I say more detailed alarms may be nice; but there is more of a chance for them to get you killed.
