Every Sunday afternoon we go down to the Quay to get a few extra hours training where any one can join in from any school if they wish to come along. Here I decided to get some footage of Paul and Huw lightly sparring. I call this half speed sparring as although it is not at full speed the hits are still aimed and if you miss you would still get hit.

Thanks for watching and please subscribe to see more videos when they are posted and feel free to leave comments below.

  • whats with all the safety equipment for light sparring??

  • @hoganator999 Thanks for the comment.

Youre right for questioning this and I can see why you have. In this case its not really for safety use but more getting used to having fists coming towards you.

Kind of like a safety blanket.

If you've got that gear on you are less likely to start turning your head every time something starts coming at you.

Obviously everyone is going to have a different opinion on the practicality of this but thats just my view.

  • uff sorry know i got it its not chung

  • @GonG108 thank you for your original comment. It is slow as it is meant to be in this case. I would say this drilling is more about getting used to a hit comming towards you. I hope you will agree in Wing Chun a lot of drills can become repetitive and you feel no threat as you know a hit is not going to make contact. For example a bong/lap drill. While this is more about confidence than speed.

I appreciate your comment and thank you for viewing.

  • @AFSWingChun could you tell me where i can see something of this ominous master william chung ? i know him since 94 but never saw him except his fail against emin boztepe but the video had a very bad quality, and today i got told that w. chung took over in former yougoslawia from leung ting and i was very very surprised to hear that now i try to find something from him but *?*

  • @GonG108 Sorry I dont know where to find any other footage apart from what is on youtube. If you are interested in articles from him I can link you to an archive of magazine articles by him.

  • A good example of wing chun application. You should post more videos with more contact. Keep up the good work.

  • for what is all the protection stuff when they don´t even hit each other

  • This isn't sparring. One guy is doing single attacks and then freezing over and over, letting the other guy do whatever he wants afterwards. Nothing wrong with going light or using protective equipment, but it's not sparring unless both people are allowed to react freely.

  • Looks very nice, mate! Kudos for focusing on centre line, so many Wing Chun practitioners go chasing the arms

  • I didn't read the title good enough, it says ''light'' sparring. Off course this is why you make so little contact :-)

  • @AFSWingChun ; You're right, at my school we don't wear a bodyplate but we do wear facemasks, throat protectors, groinprotectors and light gloves. But we try to do it with more power. The throat protectors are worn because a lot of our techniques are aimed at the throat and you should condition yourself to go to these areas (as a reflex). I think this is the best way to train yourself for realistic combat. Good video although at a higher level you should make contact and use power.

  • @PaulCNE @PaulCNE what?? wtf does yark mean???

  • @hoganator999 So you can yark each other when ya want to
