I like rock and roll but hate Elvis. My chip is fine, thank you. Elvis was a racist pig and a fad that somehow became legendary long after his death. White trash.

He's no more racist than any other rocker. You could argue that all Rock n Roll is racist. Elvis broke down racial barriers, made "colored" music acceptable to "white folks"

Elvis invented Rock n Roll with borrowed ingredients, but it's his recipe that made it what it is. The fact u call him a fad proves u can't be trusted because you have no idea what you are looking at when u see him. Nothing less than the beginning and end of Rock n Roll itself. The only honest rock after Elvis is Sexpistols

Elvis was quoted saying something to the effect that the only thing black people were good for was shining his shoes. That speaks volumes. Oh yeah, your comment about not trusting me made me laugh out loud. See, I've been a musician over 35 years now. I think I know rock and roll pretty well. Nice try though.

Then you know Elvis invented it. Racism is beside the point. EVERYone in the 50's was racist. Most people still are, if thats your criteria, then you wont have much to listen to. Chuck berry was a peeping tom and probably a pedo as well, but he still rocked great music. So who is your top pick for Rock? I assume it's not Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Elvis invented rock? Oh please, don't make me laugh. Elvis borrowed from all different styles of music and made his own thing with it, but it was hardly the birth of rock music. I'm a musician, so I like bands with great musicianship. Rush pops to mind, as they are all excellent musicians that have never sold out once and are still making albums over 30 years in the business. There are many others I am influenced by.

There's no accounting for taste, but John Lennon wasn't kidding when he said "Before Elvis there was nothing", there wasn't. All the flash, glamour and excitement that is Rock n Roll started with Elvis. It's why he's called the King. No one can compare to what he did. Who could?

Prog rock is a little different, it is barely rock n roll. It's like Rock n Roll minus sex appeal, which really isn't rock then. There are some prog. crossovers like rush, Steely dan, pink floyd,

Well, if anything, Elvis brought music into the realm of fad. Everybody has a gimmick today. But that doesn't make him the inventor of rock. It might make him the inventor of fad rock. Prog rock is every bit rock and roll as anything else. It's smart rock, instead of babes and "I love you" lyrics. Again, you seem to hang on the fad side of it.
