The naysayers can go to Hell - where they will find themselves as far as could be from Alexei Sultanov - this is simply one of the greatest accounts of the 4th Ballade I've ever heard.

Not since the early 1950s when Dinu Lipatti died of leukemia at 33 and William Kapell perished in a plane crash at 31 has the piano world suffered a loss comparable to Alexei Sultanov's tragic death at 35. He electrified audiences with massive sonorities and an explosive technique, but what moved me most was his passionate, soaring line. This innate sense of beautiful phrasing is the one quality all great pianists share, no matter how much they differ otherwise.
