Music by Miklós Rózsa. Posters and publicity shots of Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren in the screen epic El Cid, 1963.
Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (c. 1040, Vivar, near Burgos July 10, 1099, Valencia), known as El Cid Campeador, was a Castilian nobleman, a military leader and diplomat who, after being exiled, conquered and governed the city of Valencia. Rodrigo Díaz was educated in the royal court of Castile and became the alférez, or chief general, of Alfonso VI, and his most valuable asset in the fight against the Moors.

The name "El Cid" comes from the Spanish article El, and the dialectal Arab word سيد sîdi or sayyid, which means "Lord". The title Campeador comes from campidoctor, a medieval Latin word roughly meaning "master of military arts", so El Cid Campeador translates as "The lord, master of military arts". He is considered the national hero of Spain.

  • Oooh i love this soundtrack, particularly the love theme, i used that in my Loren video. It's so dramatic, and with that fabulous Spanish edge. Sophia never looked more lovely, and Heston, as masculine and electrifying as ever. Brilliant!

  • Thanks. It is superbly well made movie and has unforgettable music.

  • I have the reconstructed Score for this movie. It is by a New Zealand Orchestra and was done in association with Miklos Rozsa. Haven't heard this version before. Superb!

  • Loved this man as an actor, such an iconic symbol of cinema long gone never to be repeated.RESPECT to you MR.HESTON your surely missed...RIP.

  • LONG LIVE JESUS CHRIST ,PERIOD!!!!!

  • I'm 23 and I wish more young people knew about this epic movie.

  • Best version of this is the original vinyl OST, with Rosza orchestration. Very rare of course, but It may be found somewhere on Ebay. The 3CD from Tadlow is the next best.

  • @jslasher1 Of course it's a re-recording, so what! It's faithful to Rozsa's re-edit for Christopher Palmer. If you want the fulll score, then get the 3CD from Tadlow Music, or the 2CD from Silove Screen.

  • This is a re-recording, and, likewise, a new orchestration of Rozsa's music. It is not faithful to the score.

  • I had the privilege of of meeting Mr. Heston at a screening of "El Cid" and he autographed my "Omega Man" poster. He was a real star - gracious and unassuming, very nice. He is greatly misssed.
