@avedic Totally with you. They had their moments in the Uncle Fester days but they had lost their hunger and grasped at this sort of cliched version of the "angst" thing when they were so much better in their melodic, dreamy, psychedelic incarnation. "Zero" my ass. But that early run - what a run! So glad I saw them in '94.

no band exemplifies what the early 90s alternative music movement was about. nirvana was the poster band but smashing pumpkins, from 88 to 95 absolutely stole the show in terms of actual musical output. they had such a lovely sound in those days. youthful blissed-out psychedelic dreamy heaviness. i was always a bit sad when billy decided to become a vampire. :/ the early days of the band are without a doubt what inspired me to write my own music. SP were always a band loved by other musicians..
