UPDATE-
IRON MOUNTAIN - Two Delta County residents were injured in a car vs semi crash in Breitung Township Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Derek Dixon of the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office said that a 78-year-old Bark River man and his 79-year-old wife sustained non-life threatening injuries when their car collided with a semi-truck at the intersection of U.S. 141 and Breitung Cutoff Road at 1:42 p.m. Thursday.

Lt. Dixon said a 2002 Oldsmobile driven by the Bark River man was eastbound on Breitung Cutoff Road and was turning south onto U.S. 141 when it collided with a southbound semi-truck driven by a 46-year-old DePere, Wis., man.

The driver of the Kenworth semi was able to avoid hitting the car in the driver's door area and collided with the front of the vehicle, Lt. Dixon said.

The semi driver was not injured. He was driving for J&L Farms LLC out of DePere.

Personnel with the Breitung Township R-300 rescue vehicle extracted the Bark River couple at the scene. They were taken to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain by Beacon Ambulance crews.

The accident remains under investigation, Lt. Dixon said.

The passenger car was towed from the scene by Cerasoli Motors of Iron Mountain. The semi was towed by Truckland of Kingsford.

Assisting at the scene were the Iron Mountain Police Department, Kingsford Public Safety Department, Michigan State Police and Breitung Township Fire Department, and the Breitung Township Fire Department R-300 Unit.
