When Anchor Bay released a DVD of the full uncut version of "Cut & Run" in 2002 they claimed this version was never dubbed into English, and hence why the soundtrack keeps switching from English into Italian during the extra-gory scenes.

However, this was not actually true as a fully uncut English language print had been released on VHS and VCD in Hong Kong.

The following scenes from the uncut Hong Kong VHS release are shown here in English, which appear in Italian on the US DVD.

It is interesting to note that running times between the cut and uncut versions of the film are about the same as they used alternate less bloody takes of the same scenes for the cut version, so Anchor Bay could have simply dubbed the English soundtrack over from the cut version for use on the uncut scenes.

  • i have the MEDUSA EX RENTAL VHS video from the UK in the 1980`s, can anyone tell me whats cut,

  • @doubledragonuk if you visit my website (link is in the crotchbar) and go to the reviews section, in my review of cut and run I've done a special feature comparing the difference between the cut and uncut versions.

  • So the dvd copy I have is not full?! So how can I check what scenes are missing?

  • Its not that its not complete, rather that the soundtrack keeps switching between English and Italian, when there was no need for it to do so had Anchor Bay done a more thorough job!

  • First they made this film in 1979. But they banned it cou of too mutch gore, so they cutted the gore sceenes, and made the new version. Am i right?

Where can i get uncut version.

  • No, they shot 2 alternate takes of the main action scenes at the same time. The reason was that the Japanese and German markets at that time were obsessed with gory films, whereas other countries, like the UK, had restrictive censorship laws.

This way they could release it as a straight action movie in the more restrcitive countires and as a gore film in those countries that demanded a "hard" version.

The US DVD from Anchor Bay is uncut, but has the gory scenes in Italian language.

  • I have the uncut English language version on VHS with Cantonese subtitles. The UK VHS release was the soft verion but with a further 1 minute 45 seconds cut by the distributor to get it past the BBFC. They would probably pass it uncut now; the BBFC have just passed CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST virtually uncut-except for the scene where the muskrat is stabbed with the flick-knife.

  • That sucks, they have that itilian version on the DVDs when the english is in their face! Thx for showin this lol, now I don't have to read next time I watch :P

  • Oh soory. I wanted to post that to canniball holocausg movie.

Do you konw aneything bout that movie?

  • I can go along with you there, it's a shame AB didn't do this dub. I presume AB created their own composite from Italian sources, with uncut scenes from an Italian negative.
