Third quarry trial of a soviet DPV from 1970. Renovated over the winter of 2008, this unit has modern sealed lead acid batteries, updated wiring and a stainless steel handlebar, but basically the same as what the russian "red seals" used during the cold war. On this day I did do a side by side test against a Submerge UV 18, and the Protei-5 did stay on track with it. I used double steel LP tanks, while the diver of the UV 18 had a single, so very likely if had the same gear, the Protei would have been faster.
