These two poems, 'Blessing' and 'They'll say, "She must be from another country"', are from Imtiaz Dharker's books POSTCARDS FROM GOD (Bloodaxe Books, 1997) and I SPEAK FOR THE DEVIL (Bloodaxe Books, 2001). We filmed Imtiaz Dharker in London. The first poem, 'Blessing', is studied in schools on GCSE English courses in Britain. The second is informed by Imtiaz Dharker's cultural experience, which spans several countries. Born in Pakistan, she grew up there and in Scotland, later eloping with a Hindu Indian to live in Bombay. She now lives between India, London and Wales. Imtiaz's book "I speak for the devil" is a literary gem, especially for performance poets/artists interested in Live Literature theres so much 'voice' in them.
