  • The explanation of our response to sit-coms' use of 'laugh signs' and canned laughter as classical conditioning is incorrect. Classical conditioning occurs when we associate a natural response (basically a reflex response) with a neutral stimulus. We do not naturally laugh when we see the word 'laugh' or when we hear laughter. The response is also learned, making this more like operant learning. Sorry to be the one to spoil the joke, but your explanation just fuels people's misunderstanding.
