In this video I go over the very basics of bonsai tree wiring. I demonstrate how to wire the trunk and branches using a teaching tool.

  • Paul, excellent teaching tool that you created with this video. I brought this concept up with some of the other leaders in our bonsai club and they liked the idea. I think we may try to make a "wiring dummy tree" ourselves for teaching purposes. I liked the idea of using regular electrical wire rather than wasting any of our own bonsai wire! keep up the videos! I love watching them!

  • @kenaniahmwh Thank you very much! The wiring dummy (I love that name) is so simple to make and much easier for people to view. I think it helps peopel focus on the wire and now how you're bending the tree. Good luck and thanks again for you nice comments

  • Hi, I noticed something in the video. just want to share my info :)

@ 2'53" you were wiring two branches. When wiring two branches, You make 1-2 coils on the first branch then stop. You proceed wiring the second branch up to its tip (or desired distance) then proceed in finishing the wiring of the 1st branch. It's important to establish a strong base before proceeding to wiring the tips of the branch especially if it's still tender. Just my two cent. Great visual aid and commentary :) Goog job

  • @mksee66 You are right! Thanks for pointing that out. I'm sure I negelected to say that specifically about anchoring first. Thanks for watching.

  • hi first of all i want to say thank you for sharing all your knowledge on this beautiful art and t got a question how you keep the squirrels out of your trees? if you ever had that problem they just kill 3 of my trees by diggin the soil out of the pot they tear the roots apart.

  • @poncholosreyesmichoa Thanks for watching. I fortunately have never had any issues with squirels but I know they can be a problem. You can maybe put a screening of some sort over the soil to allow water to get in but to keep the pests out. Good luck

  • It depends on the tree. Some trees that grow quickly only need the wire on for about a month. Other slow growing trees need to have it on for months or up to a year.

  • SO here is the question... How long do you leave the wire on?and how do you know its time to take the wire off?
