@fjallman90 It's funny you should select that as deep expression. Neil stopped playing this song because of those lines--he didn't know what they meant, and even stated "it sounds like gibberish to me". Maybe he finally figured it out, because he's started playing it on the 2010 tour.
Now "I am lonely but you can free me, all in the way that you smile" is a great line.

He was probably smoking weed when he wrote it, and it sounded so deep, then the next morning he read his notes, and was like"what the fuck"? But I think it's just about lack of commitment to things when your a young man. One has the freedom of an adult to do the things they want but none of the responsibilities to see things through...

even tho i agree with you, it's funny because i read in neil young's bio that he doesnt play this song anymore because he doesnt really know what he was talking about with that particular line.
