Israeli Army Uses Natural Weedwackers

Have you ever gotten frustrated about weeds that keep sprouting up on your lawn—weeds that your weedwacker just can't reach? Well in Israel, some people have found a new approach to tackling this old problem.
During the 1950s, when traditional farming slowly disappeared and people started using high-tech machinery, weeds started popping up uncontrollably—and it damaged ecological balance.

It was a problem on this Israeli Army base, too. So they found an efficient and natural solution:

Antelopes.

They save lots of money and manpower—and the animals can reach those hard-to-get-at spots that most mowers can't.

"On the one hand antelopes feed on many kinds of vegetation—actually on all the plants growing in the country. And they can eat not only the green foliage, but also the bushes and the trees that take up space."

Domesticated animals cant eat a lot of wild weeds, but its no problem for these antelopes. Clearing the brush also helps prevent forest fires.

Caring for the antelopes isnt an issue, either. They dont need to be given a drop of water. All the water they need comes from the plants they eat and the morning dew.

"You see the financial advantage on the one hand, and the improvement in fire prevention on the other. If you really want, if they breed, you can eat their meat. People haven't yet become aware of the fact that ecology can replace technology. Recently, there is much more awareness."

All in all, its a very different way to tackle an age-old problem.
