A video by Emily Elert and Ferris Jabr

Elena (Elly) Jessop is a graduate student with the Opera of the Future research group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Her research team is working on a new opera called Death and the Powers - a fusion of music and technology for which Elly has designed a musical glove.

The glove, officially called the Vocal Augmentation and Manipulation Prosthesis (VAMP), gives its wearer the ability to manipulate her singing voice using simple gestures. To do this, the glove relies on sensor technology embedded in its fabric.
