At the request of some of my internet friends, here's a video of my 1920s Artophone phonograph. There's no electricity involved: it's a hand-cranked spring-wound motor with all-acoustic reproduction. The record was recorded acoustically as well. The selection is "Smile A Little Bit" played by the University Six and recorded November 24, 1925 (Harmony 71-H). The University Six was just another pseudonym for the California Ramblers and the personnel on this record includes:
Roy Johnston, trumpet
Bobby Davis, clarinet
Sam Ruby, tenor sax
Adrian Rollini, bass sax
Irving Brodsky, piano
Tommy Felline, banjo
Stan King, drums
Enjoy!
