I have a small backyard so that dictates how much or what I can put in there without overcrowding the place. Safety is a concern so I'm working with low voltage solar panel setups and small output windmills.
With vertical windmills, I want to make something that would make charging voltage (over 12 volts) as soon as it turns. I'm looking to make another axial flux unit with 12 small gauge coils instead of 6. Output will be small but current will be available when the turbine moves.
My homemade 60w solar panel is still working. Overall, these diy projects are a lot of fun and satisfying. I apologize for the long winded comments.
@Fearlessthinker Thanks. I used to have a small windmill on top of the metal pole attached to the garage. It's too light weight to be of much use.

Thanks for the tour! You have the tinkerer's touch. The controls look well organized and nicely labeled. That post on the garage ... can that be used for anything?

@MrHorsetail Can't do much with a small setup. Charge a few batteries, night lights and some backup power.

Your home-made panel cells look like new. I can't tell you how many times I read that non-encapsulated cells won't last more than one or two years. My home-made panel cells look the same as yours. They are 1 1/2 years old and still look good. I vent them just like you do and it works well. It goes to show you that you can't believe everything you read. What all do you run with your panels?
