@elchepe34 In winter I use a #3 circle hook. I get a few straightened hooks on cats, but it's still small enough to catch a lot of crappie too (I bait with 3" shiners in winter). After the crappie bite slows, I'll start baiting with larger 4" bream and use #6 to #8 circle hooks. If I'm setting heavy lines for flatheads, I'll use #12 circle hooks with 6" bream.

are you in a canoe or a jon boat
henryfishinandhuntin 6 months ago
@henryfishinandhuntin - It's a Coleman "Scanoe." It's sort of like a canoe, but has a squared off stern for accepting up to a 5 hp motor. Also, it's much wider in the middle and flat across the bottom. You can stand up in it, and it doesn't have the left-to-right roll like a canoe. Ultimately, you've got the stability of a johnboat, but it paddles like a canoe - kinda the best of both worlds. What's more, it flat hauls ass with the 50-lb thrust trolling motor I use. It's perfect!!!

@acmxrider It varies state by state. You'll have to check your state's fishing regulations to determine what applies where you live. Most states' have such regulations available online. If they're in a .pdf file format, you can search the entire document for the key word you're interested in. I know my state has a Code of Regulations that's hundreds of pages long and reads like the U.S. Tax Code - makes about as much sense too!

was that a fish jumping at your boat at the beginning?

@vidkeeper9 Yeah, I had some catfish tied to a stringer that were trailing along side the boat. I had not even noticed that one splashed until you mentioned it.
