George Higgs, 77, grew up in a farming community near Speed, North Carolina -- "the slow town with the fast name," as Mr. Higgs is wont to say. As a reigning master of the piedmont blues, he personifies an indigenous art that predates and influences most of what gets played in today's mass media. Although pop culture seems largely to have forgotten its roots, you really don't have to look far to find the real deal. Authenticity still lives here among us. George Higgs is proof.

@anglinthemtns Yes, yes, I know. A lot of people's YouTubes have been going out of synch lately -- not just my videos. It's a shame. YouTube is ruining a lot of people's work. There's nothing I can do about it, short of deleting and re-uploading the video. Then I lose the hit count and all comments. Sorry 'bout that. For me, the audio is the main attraction anyhow, but I am pretty put out with YouTube about the loss of synch.
