"Mormon Temples -and Meetinghouses

What is the difference between a regular chapels or meeting houses of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called "Mormons") and the temples that the church builds?
There are over 17,000 meetinghouses in the world, but only around 150 temples. This video shows the functions of each kind of building.
