@msm318 - I live in Denver, CO. This state wasn't hit as bad by the recession as some of the others *cough cough CALIFORNIA* and the unemployment here is just a shade below 7.5%.

First, I think that we need to put a moratorium on Capital Gains tax, and slice Corporate Income Tax in half and simplify the code. Then, we can de-staff the health care bills' bureaucracies, then eliminate them, before de-funding and repealing the health care bill. I could cut spending by 2/3 inside of a year.

@Slipknotyk06 I should have said that the unemployment rate here is "relatively low"...not "pretty low"....it's around 7-7.5 last time I checked.

@Slipknotyk06 I am not sure where you live, but the unemployment rate where I am is pretty low. That is primarily because I live just outside DC and the Gov't seems to have endless jobs. That is making this situation far worse. I agree with you - the jobs need to be created in the private sector by lowering taxes and ending the unemployment extensions. I wish you luck. I can tell you will be fine!

@msm318 - I agree. The fact he hasn't replied in over 1 week shows that he has conceded defeat in our discussion.

I am personally living off unemployment myself, however, I have done what I can to find a job. I personally find that more jobs need to be created, and I believe that the deliberate mismanagement of the marketplace needs to discontinue, and the Government needs to lower taxes, and discontinue extensions as this will create jobs.

@Slipknotyk06 Don't waste your time trying to reason with these folks. They are living on the dole and want to continue to do so. You can't talk any sense into people who live for a handout. If everybody took responsibility for themselves and their family, this country would be way better off.....but until we can take away the tit of the gov't, they will suckle every last drop they can.

@vemi1984 - Not to be nitpicky, but you mean one job for 3 applicants? One job for 3 people is 66% unemployment.

I really don't have family to fall back on.

If you're unable to get to a job on public trans, relocate. I mean doing so may be expensive, but the benefits vastly outweigh the costs. If you can't afford your bills, file for bankruptcy, and trim your bills until you're living within your means. Use unemployment as a stop-gap.

I am happy for you some of us don't have family to fall back on. I agree policy needs to change. However until it is a 1:3 ratio on jobs to people meaning 1 job for every three people. Americans need to keep roofs over there heads and lights on. not to mention provide themselves with cost for transportation to look for work and to start working. what good is a job if you cannot get back and forth even on public trans?

@vemi1984 - I, too, am personally on the unemployment line. However, I oppose further extensions to unemployment. Many do not seriously look for jobs until the last month or so of unemployment.

What needs to change is economic policies of tax and borrow and spend economics because it simply does not work. It's damaging the economy and destroying any substantial job growth, which could do the unemployed far more good than any extension of benefits. Jobs are the key, not unemployment!
