Linden Lab recently lifted the NDA on discussion of the Mesh Beta, so here are some initial impressions on how rigged meshes like hair and footwear look and will be affected by movement.

Please pardon the appearance of the UI; I wanted to record my impressions quickly while i demonstrated movement and different posing - this required access to a HUD as well as my inventory.

  • I think having flexi meshes would be good for other things, don't forget us furries and our tails :P

  • @CrimsonDivine It would be fun! but i don't think extra bones will be included for initial release.

  • I think a lot of people will stick with other kinds of prims for hair.. i know i will, i like my hair to bounce and move about, so no need in getting or using mesh for hair.. mesh will be good for other things i think, things that don't move a lot.. some things i wish could have a bounce though..

  • For skirts nad hairs, would be nice a mixture between gravity and mesh.

  • @Terry1212 The rig will be done via the existing SL rig but you will need to weight-paint the various parts of the uploaded mesh within the modeling program you're using to create the Collada file with, I believe - but please don't take my word for it lol

  • How do you make a rigged mesh?

  • You could also rig part with the head, part with the neck, and then part with the chest.
