James Kalm bikes to Long Island Citys PS1 Contemporary Art Center for a tour of an exhibition featuring Minus Space. Begun about five years ago by the husband and wife artist team of Matthew Deleget and Rossana Martinez, Minus Space has achieved international recognition as a focus of reductivist abstraction. This show gives an overview to the various stratigies being employed by artists which derive from the formalistic and conceptual approaches encouraged by the project. Including interviews with Manfred Mohr, Simon Ingram and founding partner Matthew Deleget.

  • thank you very much for this I wish I got to NY and PS1 more often, Loved the New Zealand Artist Simon from my home country

  • i love the ronco comment.

  • Just as I saw the Brenen painting. I too immediately thought of David Reed. But his work has definitely got a new breed going with it in bringing the stripes into the painting also.

Thanks James for this. I really enjoy watching your videos and learning about new painters I would have had to wait a much longer time to hear about any other way.

  • To the painting machine: "We can't bring him down a little vodka to get hom loosened up after a while?" haha. Great video.

  • This isn't gonna suck us into a black hole?

Made by Ronco. You crack me up ...

  • great coverage, thanks!

  • the cave gallery is very cool.

totally digg the terminator paint machine.

    thanks james

  • Wow....thanks mr. kalm, you are the best. i liked the Ryman machine by Simon(?) and you talked to him! nice! Roxy Paine comes to mind and Jean Tinguley. The think tank is a great and inspiring idea. Kudos to Phong Bui for the PS1 gig, good for him! The German six dimensional hyper-cube is a tv with an abstraction on it, that's it, nothing more. thanks and thanks and thanks mr. kalm:)

  • The painting machine and electronic tools seem to be the ideal medium for reductive (minimal) art. The Minus Space think tank personality appeals to me. And although my work is maxi to their mini I applaud their investigations. I'm on their mailing list. Their greatest risk is boredom. Ironic that the painting machine produces the least robotic product. Thanks James! Best-

  • Thanks James i wanted to see this, and was thinking whether you'd cover it or not, crossing fingers that you head on over.

When i get a proper connection I'll prob. say some more.

    Ja

    c.p.
