Interesting footage! Based on the whereabouts of the U boats end of December 1942 this could well have been the U217 on its second patrol. According to the KTB (warlog) of German Naval Command the U217 operated near Curacao and Aruba on December 26. On June 5th 1943 U217 was sunk in the mid Atlantic by an Avenger aircraft of the US escort carrier USS Bogue. All hand were lost

One cannot sent the whole sub around the world just to replace them stupid batteries. ;-)

Sadly i dont know.
They do not mention the number of the boat nor the name of the commander.
Which isnt unusual as this was usually kept secret from the public and with that also from allied intelligence.
It is obviously a type VII-C , five of which were sunk in the carribean sea but this does not necessarily mean that it was one of them.
