A form of spiritual art. Mariko-san impressed me with her elegant movement, deep knowledge, and thoughtful attention to every detail.

The Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu 茶の湯, lit. "tea hot-water"; also called chadō or sadō, 茶道, "the way of tea") is a multifaceted traditional activity based on Taoism (Daoism) and influenced by Zen Buddhism, in which powdered green tea, or matcha (抹茶), is ceremonially prepared and served to others.
The get-togethers for chanoyu are called chakai (literally "tea meeting") or chaji (literally "tea function"). Usually the term chakai is used to refer to a relatively simple course of hospitality that includes the service of confections, usucha (thin tea), and perhaps tenshin (a light snack), while the term chaji refers to a more formal course of hospitality including kaiseki (a special kind of full-course meal), confections, koicha (thick tea), and usucha (thin tea). A chaji may last up to four hours.
A tea practitioner should strive to be knowledgable if not expert in the wide range of disciplines and traditional arts that are integral to chanoyu -- for example, the production and types of tea, kimono, calligraphy, flower arranging, ceramics, and incense -- in addition to his or her school's tea practices. Because of this, the study of the tea ceremony is virtually endless. [1] Even to participate as a guest in a formal tea ceremony requires knowledge of the prescribed gestures and phrases, the proper way to take tea and sweets, and general deportment in the tea room.
thank you for explaining that ceremonies are mostly for people who do not work. while millions of others strain in agony, suffer and die in the cold, wet, and heat, owning nothing, the "Monkey Kings" gave priveleges and houses to their freinds and social concubines. the peace and sanitation is good for everyone, and more protection is deserved for those who keep the peace and who do real work. - james mcashan for the US Senate

@dithbmine1 one of the best classical composer got inspired by music from egypt. and ravel's bolero is directly influenced by the maures's(arabic) culture and influence in spain. the ancient greeks and the romans where fascinated by music from the middle east and it was played in the palace of alexander the great and jules ceasar. before that aristotes and platon mentionned how enchanting the melodies from egypt were. and yet you come here and say what a shame

@dithbmine1 i beg your pardon? what do you mean by what a shame. even though it would be arabic music what would be wrong with it ? you are not even to recognize a japanese buddhit sutra chanted from the call to th prayer of a minaret, you show how uncultured you are yet you dare criticizing. did you even know that arabic music is concidered by expert as one of the most accomplished form of music at the same level as beethoven rakmninov or vivaldi/ camille saint sean one of th best calssical

elegant or not, it takes 3 minutes to drink a cup of tea. a bit of exaggeration for something so simple. nice to watch, none the less, except the chanting is somewhat stressful, not so much relaxing. bothered me a bit in the background it did.

Her elegant movement? I don't think she moves well. A little bit rough, me and below two japanese people believe.
Thanks for uploading them, it's very useful clips for begginers who want to know the process (like me!), however, you should have not attached any music. Because people who know nothing about tea ceremony can misunderstand that there is music in the ceremony. Nonetheress, as you know, there is no music.
