June 30-July 2, 1966: The Beatles performed five concerts at the Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Two shows, on June 30 and July 1, were videotaped. At both shows, they performed "Rock and Roll Music", 'She's A Woman", "If I Needed Someone", "Day Tripper", "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Baby's in Black", "I Feel Fine", "Yesterday", "Nowhere Man", "Paperback Writer", and "I'm Down." The Jun 30 show features The Beatles performing in dark suits, while the July 1 show has The Beatles in lighter suits. Both shows have been licensed for release by Apple in Japan, and therefore have easily made it into the bootleg market in the US. A segment of "Paperback Writer" from Jun 30 as well as "Rock and Roll Music" and "Yesterday" from July 1 are included on "The Beatles Anthology," Tape # 5

  • @bertskoi

Both? Have you never seen The Beatles live at The Budokan? Its extremely well known and common.

  • This rare 8mm film was taken by a policeman of the Tokyo Metropolitan police Department.

One the right wing threatened to shoot The Beatles from auditorium in Budokan.

Policemen always watched the whole place in Budokan while The Beatles was playing.

  • @kenichisaitohchenii Well, nearly. One concert has the lads in white jackets and the other in dark green (often mistaken for black). Both were recorded on colour video tape though. They both circulate on bootleg DVDs

  • Shit, I miss john and George

  • There were two concerts broadcast one in the afternoon another in the evening. The tv station that broadcast it in 1966 still owns the rights to the footage of both concerts

  • I dont know who owns all but NHK has atleast one,one in coloured and one in black n white.ask NHK.

  • There is a TV Cameraman CENTER stage, directly in front of the Fab Four. Was it shot on video or live? Who owns THAT footage and better yet, WHERE is it ???

  • Check out another great Nippon Budokan concert. Chicago performed there on June 8,1972. The Chicago concert appears here segmented. Cheap Trick even recorded a live album there once.

  • awesome i rate your video
