My grandfather was a DC-6B captain and took this film out of his captains window. They had to shut down the number 1 engine during flight. They had to dump fuel and divert to Glasgow. This is 8mm films from 1966.

  • What was the problem in the engine?

  • @MrTimodon

oil pressure or oil temperature I think.

  • Karlinn hefur verið með græjudellu líka, ekki allir með tökuvélar upp á arminn 1966. Áttu fleiri svona gamlar flottar?

  • @kiddipiddi

ég setti inn lengra myndband í gær með fleiri myndum frá ´60s. Svo er annað á síðunni minni frá komu Gullfaxa ´67. Svo er ég með meira, m.a. B727 lendingu í Grænlandi og Glasgow sem fer inn seinna.

  • Was this plane headed from Europe back to Iceland when the engine was shut down? Spring of 1966?

  • what airline?

  • that is quite a piece of film history. (glad it had a happy ending) dont even recognise GLA. it looks so desolate

  • Þegar fuel dumpið er í gangi snýst hreyfillinn ennþá. Ætti ekki að að vera búið að feathera proppana þá?

  • thanks for sharing, the F/E correctly feathered the prop. and engine failures were quite common at the time, but not insurmountable by any means. I thank you for sharing!

  • very good
