Shawn Lane & Paul Gilbert - Let it be (NAMM - 15th Jan 1993) (Audio)

Here is an audio recording of Shawn Lane and Paul Gilbert playing "Let it Be", at the NAMM show, Anaheim, CA, on the 15th Jan 1993.

Shawn Lane's 'Earth shattering' solo begins at around 3:55, one of the most intense guitar solos ever captured as a recording IMO. Apparently (from people who were lucky enough to be there) this audience was literally packed out with many well known 'guitar heroes', who probably got the shock of their life to see Shawn pull this off right in front of them. Back then Shawn was still just an urban legend in the guitar world, with stories told about him from those lucky enough to have seen him in person. This show was like a big unveiling of Shawn.

This performance does actually exist on 'video', unfortunately we'll probably not get to see that, but at least we have it to enjoy as audio.

At 7:14 someone (i guess the one who was recording, or someone close to him) says in italian: "At first he looked like a dickhead, but then he pulled out a goddamn great technique!!" ... but I don't know who he referred to :P

This might just be my favourite recording of anything ever, I'm not sure. Paul sang on this really really well I think. Sometimes I think he can be kinda average at singing, but here, I think he's a beast at singing and guitar playing. It's such a shame they can't meet together again....
