Jazz guitarist Jim Hall performs "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" with a trio consisting of Steve Swallow on bass and Pete LaRoca on drums. This tune was Hall's feature on Art Farmer's "Live at the Half-Note" record and this footage is likely from a 1964 appearance of the Farmer quartet.

  • Jim Hall, for those who listen, is the consummate master of the subtle, understated, introspective school of jazz guitar, and one who values the use of silence and space in his phrasing.

  • Who gives a rat's behind about the color, the performance is what has been recorded for posterity and it's grand makes me happy to be alive to enjoy it again and again .Thank you meesterbenja.

  • Yes, he is Pete La Roca, as this ist the Art Farmer Quartet 1964. Art is maybe taking a break, enjoing Jim's music. :-) In "the complete live recordings" this piece is also played in trio, with maybe Art (?) whistling the theme while Jim Plays it right at the beginnig... :-) Nice one! Thanks for posting!

  • @johnbresnik The bass player is Steve Swallow, by the way. Along w/ Jim Hall and the drummer, this is three fourths of the Art Farmer Quartet, circa 1964.

  • ..... love ......

  • @TrueMason it's a string dampner, it keeps open strings from resonating
